SOUTH MANCHESTER: RIVER MERSEY FLOOD WARNING NO LONGER IN PLACE
Residents living near The River Mersey should begin to prepare for flooding. Levels at Cheadle Wood and Ford Lane have been rising in response to rainfall throughout the day. Levels in the River Mersey are forecast to reach 6.9m in the next couple of hours. We are currently anticipating that levels will peak shortly after. Properties in the Cheadle Wood and Ford Lane areas at Didsbury are most at risk. Rainfall is easing although heavy showers may continue to affect these areas. Nearby residents are recommended to prepare for flooding with sandbags if possible and stay out of the water. Manchester Council's emergency number is: 0161 223 7222
 
A flood warning has been issued for parts of Greater Manchester. The Met Office’s yellow warning for Greater Manchester remains in force until 6am on Tuesday. Guidance issued by Public Health England and Environment Agency:
  • Avoid walking or driving near flood water
  • Avoid contact with flood water and wash your hands regularly
  • Move your family and pets to a high place that you can escape from and evacuate when you are told to do so
  • Do not touch sources of electricity if you are standing in water
  • Check on neighbours who may be vulnerable
  • You can find out how to use sandbags to protect your property.
  • Unless absolutely necessary you are advised not to travel.
 
TRAINS:
  • Severe delays in and out of Piccadilly, check here before travelling.
  • A number of Northern Rail services suspended, check here before travelling.
  • Trains between Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield have been suspended, check here before travelling.
  • Trans-Pennine Express has urged passengers not to travel. Expect delays and cancellations until further notice. Tickets for Monday will be accepted on Tuesday's services.
  • Trans-Pennine Express services between Manchester Piccadilly, Stockport and Sheffield severely delayed or suspended. Tickets are being accepted on Northern and Cross Country services.
METROLINK:
  • Altrincham - Severe delays
  • Ashton-under-Lyne - Good service
  • Bury - Severe delays
  • City Zone - Minor delays
  • East Didsbury line: Suspended until further notice, use alternative transport. Metrolink tickets accepted on buses 42, 84, 141, 142 & 143 and TransPennine and Northern Rail services between Piccadilly and Manchester Airport
  • Eccles - Severe delays
  • Manchester Airport - Good service
  • Rochdale - Good service
 
BUSSES:
  • Uppermill (Wade Lock) disruption: 184 service will run to Greenfield, 350 service to Ashton will terminate at Uppermill.
  • Oxford Road disruption: services operating via Oxford Road (41, 42, 43, 142, 143) are subject to delays and extra demand - allow extra time for your journey.
