Figures released today by the Department for Education show that Manchester will be getting £84.8m to provide extra school places, the biggest grant in the country, in 2017/18.
Liberal Democrat Schools Minister David Laws has just announced £1.3 billion of funding. This is in addition to the £5 billion allocated over 2011 to 2015 and the £2.35 billion already announced for 2015 to 2017.
South Manchester Liberal Democrat MP John Leech said today, “I have long argued that Manchester, especially south Manchester, needs more school places. I am please my lobbying of ministers has been successful and Manchester will get an extra £84.8m to provide them.”
John added, “I hope the Council use this money wisely and plan for the long term, rather than do the temporary patch up jobs they have done in the past.”
