Leech questions Immigration Minster about forcing Asylum Seekers to travel to Liverpool to make new applications.

South Manchester MP John Leech has questioned Security and Immigration Minister James Brokenshire over new restrictions that force asylum seekers to travel to Liverpool to make fresh applications.

John agreed with Boaz Trust founder Dave Smith who called the new rules “pure discrimination and a cynical attempt to deter people from putting in fresh submissions”

John Leech MP said today, “If you are a single asylum seeker over 18 you get just over £36 per week in support, and aren’t allowed to work. Finding the £12 rail or coach fair to get to Liverpool is nearly impossible. Government are putting Asylum Seekers in the position of not being able to afford to put in new applications.”

John added, “I am a patron and long-time supporter of the Boaz Trust. They do first class work helping and supporting destitute Asylum Seekers across Greater Manchester.”
