Cancer Survival Rates: Stop biting your stiff upper lip and go to your doctor

I’m really concerned about some new cancer research by UCL and Kings College, London.

People in Britain may be needlessly dying of cancer because they don’t want to talk about it.

Researchers believe Brits, and especially British men, are more likely to keep a “stiff upper lip” and not visit the doctor than people in five other developed countries. Many say they are afraid of wasting the doctor’s time.

The scary thing about this is that Britain’s cancer survival rates are consistently worse than in other developed countries.

As regular readers of my blog will know, I have been campaigning to improve UK cancer treatment for years.  These figures are frightening but I also see them as an opportunity. By changing attitudes we have a real chance to save lives.

If you or someone you know has noticed anything different recently about their body, then for goodness sake don’t be shy about it. Speak to your doctor or call NHS Direct as soon as possible on 0845 4647.
